I have these moments, flashes, if you will, in which I see all the possibilities of the different twists and turns my life has taken, and how I somehow ended up here. This was something I used to talk with my grandma about quite a bit and have always held on to. She used to talk about how every choice, leads to how the rest of your life unfolds, and nothing is irrelevant.
As we look at our choices, the ones we consider fantastic and also the ones we consider to be less than stellar… We can see what we were thinking (even if now we know better) and we can also see where the choice lead, even if we did not like the initial outcome. If we stop to take a minute and look at where we are right in this moment-we can find the path that lead us here. Maybe it was linear…but most of the time, it was likely more of a maze of trial and error, and a series of events and choices that lead us to this exact place in time.
I look at a coaching program I took last summer that was maybe somewhat helpful… the jury is still out. But I will say, that as a result, I was introduced to NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programing) which up to that point, I had almost no knowledge of. That lead me to a training where I learned amazing new techniques that have helped more clients than I could have ever imagined and I also met some great people there. Among them, was a fellow Psychologist who introduced me to Access Consciousness-The Bars, which is an amazing energy practice that releases the electromagnetic charge of all thoughts, ideas, attitudes, decisions, and beliefs that may have limited you in concerned life areas. I’m now less than a week away from being certified to teach others to do this practice and I have been using it on clients for close to a year.
These practices opened me up to question what else is possible? For my clients and my career. Take some more sub-par choices of spending money to learn from others-but lead to an understanding of how to run Facebook ads well and now I have two amazing Facebook Groups that are extremely fulfilling and helping to grow and expand my business. I also got an added bonus of getting a tax return for once as a result of money spent to grow my business. And we move onward. I can look back on my choices and say, “That was a dumb thing to do.” Or I can say, “That was an interesting learning experience and I was able to gain some things, even when the outcome desired was not what was intended.”
We can break this down into smaller moments as well. The day you force yourself to go to the yoga class you didn’t really feel like going to is a day you met a huge connection for your business. Or the day you finally mustered up the courage to talk to the girl at the counter while your friends played Laser Tag and now you’re madly in love, or the job you didn’t intend to keep very long, but you met someone who referred you to someone they knew at a job that you also didn’t intend to keep, but has turned out to be a great career that you have grown into.
Life is a series of moments. 10 second increments if you will- the moves of today are what leads us to the future we could never predict – this is the beauty of life.
What are your step-by-step moments? What are the things that you regretted later? How have they helped you in spite of the initial outcome? How can we be kinder to ourselves and remember it is all part of the story that is unfolding? Remember that a book without some twists and turns is not much of a page turner. And what fun would that be?
