It’s been awhile since I’ve written. Maybe 4 months or so. The truth is, I’ve been so freaking busy growing this business…that once started as a blog, that I haven’t had time to blog. Ironic isn’t it? I have definitely been “burning the candle at both ends” as they say. It’s not bad, by any means. I love coaching, probably more than therapy as it comes naturally to me, I LOVE watching people get amazing results, and it’s FUN. But I also realized that something had to give, as I’m still working at my “day job” as a Psychologist, raising two little boys, and doing my best to keep up a romance with my husband.
As things often do, it hit me on the head after a complete melt-down when I backed my brand new car into my garage door…from the inside. Yeah, smooth, I know.
But it was such an important metaphor for me, of how most of our problems are coming from the inside. Not because of anyone else or anything else, but because of us. Trying to do too much, too fast, and run the fastest “rat-race” we can…against who? Ourselves.
So I had to cut back on something. Change something. Do something different. So I went to my boss and asked for a decrease in hours. Nothing crazy, just more reasonable 8 hour days, instead of the 10 I was pulling. Maybe it will mean a financial decrease, maybe not, hard to know the effects until it’s in place. But I have a general belief that it will be well worth it. To have time to exercise in the morning instead of after work, when it gets set aside too often, with too little time for it, to have my kids in day-care for less hours, more quality time with them, my husband, and myself-more time to cook, live mindfully, breathe.
So many of us do this though, don’t we? We work ourselves so hard, like there’s some badge of honor for being overworked, sleep-deprived, and “accomplished”-whatever that means. What if life was just more fun? What if we slowed down, took more time out to play, enjoyed our people-you know, the ones we do all this work for in the first place? Wouldn’t that be better?
I posted an article in my groups (Authentic Confidence Collective and Therapists Expanding Energy) on the principles of Reiki and how we might apply these to our everyday. The general idea is focusing on “just for today” I will… which can certainly be broken down further into “just for this moment”, etc. They are as follows:
- Just for today, I release angry thoughts and feelings.
- Just for today, I release thoughts of worry.
- Just for today, I am grateful for my many blessings.
- Just for today, I practice expanding my consciousness.
- Just for today, I am kind to all being including myself.
What a lovely way to remember who we are and what we need-just for right now. Then keep living our life in 10 second increments… and do this over and over again.
So here I am writing again. Mainly, because I’ve really missed it. Nothing else has really changed. I ‘m just working on slowing down a bit. Growing this business because I love it-nurturing it like a child. Not pushing too hard, too fast, and not trying to prove anything to anyone. But instead, doing it from a place of love, positive energy, and gratitude. That was the reason for starting in the first place…
We all need to find the thing that brings us the most joy, the most love, the thing that comes easily-not the thing that requires us to cry ugly tears of frustration and pull our hair out-but instead the thing that people compliment us for and say, “Wow, this is your gift…you should do more of THIS.” Follow that call. Do the things that you love, that bring joy, those are the things that make life fun and enjoyable. Have you bought into the idea that we are only successful if we work ourselves ragged? That we can only make a living wage by working 12 hour days? Most of us in America have. You don’t have to buy into the beliefs you were taught as a child anymore. There is a better way. A more fulfilling, fun, and expansive way.
Can you relate? Interested in learning more? If so, I encourage you to book a call with me to talk about how we can work together. I have lots of options now. There’s in-person coaching, Reiki, Access Conscious Bars (that will need another whole blog…or many as that’s definitely a true love of mine), hypnosis, trauma clearing… as well as over the phone, video-chat coaching, Group Intensives, and my weekly Tuesday night course. Check out all I have to offer on my Work with Me page. Glad to be writing again-thanks for reading:)
Love, light, and gratitude,
